Recommended Bucket List 2013

When it comes to travel, everyone has a list of places that they want to visit; luckily, the term ‘bucket list’ is no longer just associated with those things to be done before death. It is simply a list of things that a person wants to do.

To create a bucket list, all a person has to do is think about the types of places in the world that interest them and work out the ones that they want to see the most.

European destinations

France is filled with beautiful locations and Arles is one that should feature on any bucket list for travel.  There are Roman ruins that have World Heritage Site status and the area also has an important place in art history, so there are galleries here that are worth the trip.

The Greek city of Athens is filled with ancient ruins, such as the Parthenon, and the opportunity to see these at close quarters should not be missed.  Alternatively, a trip to Spain might be preferable to take in sights such as the Alhambra, which attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.

The city of Vienna is one of the most beautiful in Europe and there are many reasons to go there, even if it is only to try one of the amazing cakes.  It is filled with parks, galleries and museums, meaning that there is something for everyone.  Austria is also home to cities such as Salzburg, where there are many attractions and beautiful sites to visit.

The rest of the world

The pyramids in Egypt are also a must for anyone who is interested in ancient history.  As the Great Pyramid has the distinction of being the only surviving ancient wonder of the world, it has a strong attraction. Tours of the pyramids take place regularly and a cruise down the Nile might also appeal to some travelers.

Turkey might count as a European destination for some people, but it is actually officially part of Asia.  The city of Istanbul is filled with exotic marketplaces and ancient buildings, yet it is also becoming a very modern and cosmopolitan place to be.  Shopping here is a must and those who want to immerse themselves in local culture will find a large number of great restaurants to try.

Planning the trip

The bucket list can include things that the traveler wants to do once they arrive at their chosen destination.  Working out even a sketchy schedule in advance is a good idea for those desperate to make sure that the most important things are not missed.  For example, if a certain museum is one of the reasons for the trip then check the opening times and days in advance.  If a certain restaurant appeals, book a table in advance to avoid disappointment.  If the trip involves more than one destination, the help of a hotel booking agent is a good idea.  Simple hotel booking will ensure that there is accommodation ready and waiting for the traveler once they arrive at their chosen destination.
